Daytona 500

Most sports reserve their biggest event for the end of the year. Not auto racing, who kicks off their season by hosting “The Superbowl of NASCAR” at the birthplace of American Stock Car Racing — Daytona Beach, Florida.

Private planes fill the sky in the weeks leading up the Daytona 500 as owners, drivers and team members arrive on their team’s private jet; the days leading up to the race see a flurry of aviation activity as fans fly private to (KDAB) Daytona Beach International from around the world — the airport it’s conveniently located next door to Daytona International Speedway, although next door to a 2.5-mile tri-oval is still be quite a hike.

Private

Due to the high volume of private jet and turbo-prop activity brought on by the Daytona 500 and other NASCAR races across the country, many airfields assign airport slots to help handle traffic.

The roots how i got over. Airport slots are essentially time slots for permitted arrivals and departures. As more and more flights are scheduled at a general and private aviation fields close to popular sporting events, your arrival/departure times may be limited based on available slots. NASCAR’s Airport

Jets

Located 7 miles west of Concord’s central business district, (JQF) Concord Regional Airport is a city-owned, public-use airport classified by the FAA as a reliever airport for (KCLT) Charlotte Douglas.

Although many airports in the U.S. have the same three-letter identifier for the FAA and IATA, (KJQF) Concord Regional is assigned JQF by the FAA but had no designation from the IATA until 2013, when it was assigned the IATA code USA — more on Airport Codes.

(JQF) Concord Regional offers a single asphalt runway (2/20) measuring 7,400 feet; since it’s runway expansion to accommodate larger private jets in the early 2000’s, several NASCAR racing teams now base their aircraft fleets at Concord Regional, earning it the nickname “NASCAR’s Airport”.

Motorsports teams often fly private out of Concord Regional instead of Charlotte Douglas due to its affordability and proximity to their headquarters; the airport’s proximity to I-85 offers convenient access to Charlotte Motor Speedway and the Z-max Dragway.

Nascar Drivers Private Planes

Brad Keselowski is defending NASCAR drivers’ use of private planes this week following Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s family’s crash last week.

The Team Penske driver believes that the way the personal-use transportation enables drivers to be as present as possible for their families overrides any other reason for the racing professionals not to use private planes.

“I understand that most people might not get that concept, but most people aren’t in the situation we’re in as race car drivers that travel every week. We don’t get to skip a week,” Keselowski said according to NBC Sports. “We’re not like LeBron James where we get to sit on the bench or stay home for a week or whatever it is from other sports. This is 38 weeks, and they will run the race without you. And your a– will get fired if you don’t show up.

“So that’s really hard to explain to people. And it’s very hard to explain to your wife and daughter when you miss something that’s really special to them. Private aviation is a great way to try to fill those gaps. And we might get a black eye because of that, but it’s something that I’m really passionate about and very thankful for.”
